Massive Middle East grain silo contract for Redler

Stock Redler Limited, the UK based bulk materials handling and storage specialists, have secured one of the biggest contracts in the company's 80 year history.

Redler was awarded the huge project by the Kuwait Flour Mills & Bakeries Company for the complete system design, plus the supply of all related mechanical and electrical elements of a 160,000 tonne Grain Silo and processing facility which will be the biggest of its kind in the Middle East.

In the face of some serious competition from companies throughout Europe, Redler was able to draw upon its depth of modern day grain silo design knowledge to design and propose an outstanding process system solution which significantly assisted in securing the business and will result in the client operating a facility with all of the latest technology incorporated, inclusive of ATEX rated equipment and dust explosion protection and propagation components.

The government owned complex in Kuwait is the only flour mill in the country.  As well as manufacturing flour, the facility supplies bulk or bagged grain for inland distribution with all collected grain dust and screenings being pelletized for use in animal feed.   The company also has biscuit and pasta productions on site as well as owning numerous bakeries throughout Kuwait.

There are currently four concrete silos on the huge site complex in Kuwait and the new investment will see two of these demolished to make way for the massive new 160,000 tonne silo to be constructed alongside an existing silo previously equipped by Redler in the early 1980's.

The huge new silo containing 140 individual storage cells will be fed by Redler conveying and elevating equipment from both road and ship where a high capacity intake of materials such as wheat, barley and soya beans can be achieved with rates between 300 - 600 tph.

All material being handled and stored within the silo will be weighed and pass through a series of magnets and cleaning equipment before being transferred across to the flour milling complex.

A fully automatic control system, also to be designed and supplied by Redler, includes a state of the art PLC system incorporating a SCADA package, MCC's and all of the associated site wiring and components.

The Redler contract for the design, supply, supervision and commissioning of the new system is due for delivery towards the end of 2009 with installation and a phased handover planned for 2010.

This business demonstrates again the strength and capabilities within the Redler organisation to work very closely with the client, in the fulfillment of a total turnkey solution and package.

Bulk Materials Handling Director, Andrew Workman, stated that this contract was the result of several years' hard work in the Middle East and once again showed how Redler are considered as a major player within the grain handling and storage business throughout the world.
